Midtown Scholar Bookstore Abuzz with Literary Happenings!

The Midtown Scholar Bookstore will be hosting a special writerly event on the Main Stage this Thursday, November 9th, featuring Carmen Maria Machado. A fine writer, she'll discuss and sign copies of her award-winning short story collection, Her Body and Other Parties.
Coinstantaneously, the Almost Uptown Poetry Cartel will be hosting its world-class open reading (7 to 9pm) in our cozy regular Poetry Thursdays' meeting room.

So if you'd like to read out in our informal group setting, here's what you do: walk in, bear left, stride boldly through the crowd and turn at your first left-- make it a U-turn-- & head straight back through the children's room and join us for a two-hour open mic.
Read your own verse or, share something special by a favorite writer. Yeah. Or, kick back & listen up. Either way, it's all good.
Seriously, everything's waiting for you.

Long-running Poetry Series, Poetry Thursdays

The Almost Uptown Poetry Cartel hosts almost perpetual Thursday events at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore, 1302 N. Third St in Harrisburg.

It's a long-running show.
It all began in 1999, at a different Third St. address. Travelled a bit, then brought it all back home to Midtown.

We call our weekly shindig Poetry Thursdays. There's no cost for these events-- there'll be an open poetry gig on October 19. Open to all & sundry versifiers. For more information 717-236-1680.

an Electrifying open mic, September 21 at Midtown Scholar Bookstore.

I sing the body electric. --Walt Whitman

e·lec·tric·i·ty/ əˌlekˈtrisədē/
a basic component of nature,
is the presence and flow of
charged particles.
Its best-known form is the
flow of electrons through
conductors such as
copper wires.

It blesseth those who sing
and those who listen.
