Spring, Summer special events
There will be a poetry reading/open mic on April 25, and on May 16, there'll be a reading of Swedish and Norwegian poetry in conjunction with the annual Syttende Mai celebration in Spring Grove, MN.
Rick Kearns (May 30) will be featuring local laureates at Harrisburg's Midtown Scholar Bookstore .
Poetry Thursdays, legendary reading series happens every Thursday evening, 7--9pm at the Scholar. There's always an open mic, no hassles, no sign-up sheet.
Most nights consist of two hours of performing mania.
When there is a featured event there is still an abbreviated (forty-five minute) open reading. Seating is limited.
Come early, read fast and hard (there's actually no problem with quiet, contemplative verse, I'm just trying to make this sound exciting). And fun!
High-decibel or gentle poetry, it's all good. Bless our stage with your presence, your voice. Yeah! Share your song with others.
Everything's waiting for you.

Syttende Mai (or the 17th of May) marks Norway’s declaration of independence and is a celebration of the 1814 signing of Norway’s constitution and independence from Sweden. This day is also called Constitution Day and National Day and is a great spring festival in Norway.
Norway was at that time under Swedish rule (following the Convention of Moss in August 1814) and for some years the King of Sweden was reluctant to allow the celebrations. After 1864, the day became more established, and the first children's promenade was launched in Christiana.
Spring Grove, Minnesota has been recognizing founding fathers and honoring our Norwegian-American heritage since 1973 with an annual city celebration.
